Old Dominion University - Student Film Selection
“The Lucky Dress” Written and Directed by Kristina Wise
Old Dominion University’s Cinematography Class required a semester-long group project that would result in a short film for each group. As the first assignment every student was tasked with writing a silent short script, and after a class wide vote the top 3 scripts were selected and the class was broken up in groups to create the film.
My script, The Lucky Dress, was selected and I had the privilege to bring my words to life. The film was about a man suffering the grief and loss of his partner Rose. When clearing out her clothes he finds her favorite yellow dress. The dress flashes him back to memories of their life together and her unfortunate passing. After much deliberation he decides to donate the dress so that the magic of the dress and the legacy of Rose can live on and bless another woman’s life.
With the help of my classmates we created a short film won the selection from the class to premiere in the Winter Showcase. One film per grade is selected each semester. Additionally, stills from “The Lucky Dress” were used as promotional materials for the event, as seen above.
Included in the slide show is the sunset scene from which those stills were taken.
